In the world of fashion photography, there are moments that stand out, not just for their visual appeal but for the story they tell. My recent photoshoot for Abysse’s new swimwear collection, “Canopy” was one such moment. Abysse, known for its sustainable swimwear, women’s wetsuits, and activewear, merges the essence of Tahiti with the design finesse of California.
This collection ‘CANOPY’, where the mountains meet the sea, is inspired by the lush green mountains of Polynesia. This collection, marked by shades of green and tropical designs, is designed to reflect and embrace our natural ethos. It exemplifies minimalism, environmental consciousness and connection with the elements.
Abysse’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in every piece of the Canopy collection. Crafted from recycled materials, these swimwear pieces are a testament to eco-friendly fashion. The greens and tropical patterns of the collection pay homage to nature, making them perfect for a photoshoot set amidst the beauty of the natural world.
As the collection Canopy is inspired by Polynesia, where the mountains meet the sea, I decided that the photoshoot should unfold in three scenes, each chosen to complement the collection’s theme and highlight its connection to nature.
Scene 1: Beach Bliss
The first scene was set on a pristine beach, where the models Alicia Kelley and Valentina Autran brought the Canopy collection to life. The crystal blue turquoise waters provided a striking contrast to the lush green swimwear, creating a visual symphony of colors. The simplicity of the beach setting underscored the minimalistic design of the swimwear, allowing the sustainable message of the collection to shine through.
The white dive mask and snorkel is the ‘Barbados Dive Mask and Snorkel’ from Gentle Habits . and was the perfect beach accessory for the photoshoot.
Scene 2: Mountain Majesty
The second scene took us to a verdant green mountain backdrop. This location emphasized the tropical essence of the Canopy collection. The models, framed by the majestic mountain, embodied the strength and grace of nature. The green hues of the swimwear seamlessly blended with the surroundings, reinforcing the collection’s connection to the environment and the mountains.
Scene 3: Ocean Adventure
The third scene was a thrilling display of the Canopy collection’s versatility and functionality. Alicia Kelley, longboarder from Hawaii, went for a surf on her longboard, showcasing two different suits from Abysse. The dynamic shots captured Alicia riding the waves, the yellow and green tones of the swimwear harmonizing with the deep blues of the ocean and the green mountains in the background. This scene not only highlighted the practicality of the sustainable materials used in the swimwear but also underscored Abysse’s deep connection to water sports and the ocean.
Photographer Elise Lainé, renowned for her expertise in fashion and swimwear photography, captured the essence of the Canopy collection with her lens. Specializing in commercial photography, Elise’s work is characterized by a keen eye for detail and an ability to tell a story through images. Her experience and vision were instrumental in bringing out the natural beauty of the models and the swimwear.
Alicia Kelley and Valentina Autran, both seasoned models, brought energy and elegance to the photoshoot. Their chemistry and professionalism were evident in every shot, making the Canopy collection come alive.
The Canopy collection by Abysse is more than just swimwear; it’s a statement about sustainability and a tribute to nature. This photoshoot was an incredible opportunity to showcase how fashion can be both beautiful and environmentally conscious. As a photographer, it’s always a privilege to work on projects that align with my values. Abysse’s commitment to sustainability and their dedication to creating beautiful, eco-friendly fashion is inspiring. The Canopy collection is a reminder that we can make stylish choices that are kind to our planet.
